When the unfaithful Atli is turfed out of the family home by his irate wife, he takes refuge with his parents. Bad move! This featureless little house in a nondescript suburb is no safe haven, rather a hotbed of anger and seething resentment. The problem is the bad feeling between his parents and their younger neighbours, with the main bone of contention being an overhanging tree. For Atli’s parents it is a thing of beauty, for their neighbours it just blocks out the sun. Unfortunately, over the years, Atli’s mother has managed to transform holding a grudge into an art form! Add to this concoction of ill-will a garden gnome incident and the mysterious wanderings of a cat and a dog, and the resulting brew is wonderfully droll, but increasingly dark.
