And finally, just what you’ve all been waiting for – a film about Scrabble! Well, sort of. It concerns the fastidious Alan, a stickler for correct dress and an accomplished wordsmith. Ironically, despite his skill with words, he has always been unable to communicate properly with his son Peter who feels that his father has overlooked him in favour of his brother Michael. Unfortunately, Michael disappeared many years ago, storming out of the house in the aftermath of a Scrabble-related incident! Although Alan’s continued search for Michael sometimes casts a mournful tone over the film, this is alleviated by the many comic interludes along the way, moving towards a revelatory and touching conclusion. Delightfully droll and quintessentially British in its low-key quirkiness, Sometimes Always Never will hopefully afford the viewer even greater pleasure than using all seven letters in one go on a triple word score!
