It is safe to say that teenagers Greg and Earl are not your typical high school students. Shunning social contact as much as possible, they have discovered a mysterious affinity with
art-house world cinema! This is all thanks to Greg’s father’s impressive DVD collection that they have enthusiastically devoured over the years. Gradually they have progressed to filming their own very low-tech takes on their favourite classic movies. Their self-contained existence has to open up to a wider world, however, when Greg’s mother asks him to befriend classmate Rachel who has been diagnosed with leukaemia. This proves to be a challenging request, but nevertheless a true friendship between them develops. Bursting with energy and originality,”Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” is funny, charming and poignant – and a quirky homage to classic cinema too.
