The year is 1983. In the beguiling countryside of Northern Italy 17 year-old Elio is spending another long, sun-dappled summer vacation with his urbane, cosmopolitan parents. Each summer his academic father enlists the help of a postgraduate student to assist him in his research. This particular year Oliver, a 24 year-old American, arrives to fulfil this role. Elio soon begins to feel attracted to the confident, stylish Oliver, and first love blooms. There is so much to be seduced by in this achingly romantic film. The locations are idyllic and the people not only beautiful, but also intelligent and civilised. The emotions so eloquently displayed in “Call me by your name” ring true, as does Elio’s bittersweet life lesson. A great hit with audiences and critics alike!
