Blending ‘buddy comedy’ with social commentary, Blindspotting wittily and incisively addresses crucial issues in contemporary American society. In Oakland, California, two lifelong friends, the black Collin and the white Miles, through their work for a removals firm, experience at first hand the rapid gentrification of the city, a development that particularly infuriates the irascible Miles. Despite Collin’s disapproval, Miles buys a gun, which he claims he needs for self- defence, an act that almost ends in tragedy and alienates his horrified friend. Collin has already witnessed the shooting of an unarmed black man by a white policeman and the shock this has caused him turns to anger when he later sees the incident falsely reported on the TV news. But he is to come across the same police officer again in very different circumstances…
