Overgård, a downed airman alone in a desolate Arctic region, struggles for survival in the harshest of circumstances. He shelters in his crashed plane and we see him going about his daily routine of checking fishing lines, mapping his surroundings and operating a distress beacon. He is adept at all this. He has obviously been doing it for quite some time. When one day he sights a helicopter, rescue seems to be at hand. However, stormy weather causes it to crash, seriously injuring a young woman on board. Overgård’s circumstances are now even more challenging as he becomes responsible for the woman’s survival too, a task not made easier by a polar bear on the prowl. Set against a stark, inhospitable landscape, Arctic is a chilling and thrilling experience; the ultimate survival movie.
