Just released from a short spell in prison, Mary is a young woman with attitude who finds reintegration into her former life in Drogheda something of a hard slog. For one thing her erstwhile comrade in arms Charlene is no longer rabble-rousing, but engaged to be married and thinking only of her approaching wedding. Mary is to be maid of honour at the wedding, but her invitation is not “plus-one”, as Charlene thinks her unlikely to have a suitable date! Mary, on the other hand, is determined to prove her wrong. Unfortunately, she only manages to plan a series of potentially disastrous dates with a variety of unsuitable men! However, her life is all set to veer off in an unexpected direction… With its barnstorming central performance, “A Date for Mad Mary” succeeds in combining abrasive comedy, pathos and romance with remarkable dexterity.
