With its moody black and white photography, hard-boiled dialogue and slinky femme fatale “Double Indemnity” is the classic film noir of all time. The moment insurance salesman Walter Neff sets eyes on the sultry Phyllis Dietrichson he knows she spells trouble – but that doesn’t stop him falling for her and becoming a willing pawn in her labyrinthine scheme. A plan to murder Phyllis’s husband and claim an enormous sum in insurance (the double indemnity of the title) is perfectly executed, but they reckon without the grim determination of insurance claims manager Barton Keyes, who smells a rat… Thrilling and shocking, this timeless classic still packs a formidable punch.
